Still the most common type of braces are traditional metal braces. The metal braces (also known as brackets) are attached to patients’ teeth and held together with an archwire that connects all the brackets together. The brackets and the archwires are held together by elastic ligatures. These are the colors that you see on braces. You can choose whatever colors you want, which makes it fun for holidays or special events.
Braces can correct a wide variety of problems, some of which might even be causing speech impediments. Other problems may include crossbites, underbites, overbites, gaps, overcrowding, and more.
Things To Know From Weber Orthodontics
Keep in mind when reading this, that each patient is different and so even though something is listed below, you personally may never experience it throughout your entire treatment of braces.
- Once you have braces, you will have to come to the office every 6-8 weeks for your adjustment appointments. At these appointments your braces are adjusted and you get to change the colors on your braces.
- While your braces are on, you will be advised against eating certain foods as they can get caught in your braces or cause one of the brackets to come off.
- Brackets may irritate your gums when they are first put on. Your orthodontist in Kansas City, MO, will provide you with orthodontic wax to help this problem.
- Brush, brush, brush your teeth.
One of the most important things to remember is to brush your teeth often when having braces. There are so many more crevices for food and bacteria to hide.
